Social Enterprise & Revenue Opportunities for Nonprofits

On the latest episode of “It Happens at STN”, UMOM CEO Jackson Fonder and COO Monique Lopez got into the details of social enterprise: what it is, and what it means for nonprofits like UMOM in terms of revenue opportunities.

Helpings Café & Catering, UMOM’s onsite café, is a perfect example of a social enterprise as a for-profit establishment whose revenue becomes funding for UMOM New Day Centers. At the same time, Helpings serves as a training ground for UMOM clients in the Homegrown culinary training program, who gain real-world kitchen, barista, and customer service experience during their time at UMOM that helps them earn an income and begin rebuilding their lives.
