Speaker’s Bureau

Are you one of the lucky souls who loves to speak publicly? We’d be delighted to put you to work as part of the UMOM Speakers Bureau.Once you’re accepted into the program, we’ll take you on a tour of UMOM New Day Center’s main campus and train you to speak effectively about UMOM’s supportive programs, shelter, and affordable, permanent housing. We receive a constant flow of requests for speakers. By joining UMOM's Speakers Bureau, you will help us spread the word and educate our community.

Support Services

Support Services Volunteers provide valuable help to UMOM staff and do everything from overseeing the computer lab to assisting with life skills training, employment and education services and other duties as needed. Where? Teen Activities Program (TAP)

Teens are fascinating people who can often benefit from the wisdom of a caring volunteer. TAP is a free after-school program for youth ages 12 to 17. Through case management, tutoring, leadership training, physical and nutritional education, field trips and summer camps, teens acquire the skills they need to plan for life after high school, reason through critical life decisions, develop resiliency and keep their grades up. Read To Me

Want to help a child build a lifetime love of reading? Readers know it expands your mind and your world. It’s a powerful gift. Every Tuesday night at the UMOM New Day Centers main campus, volunteer readers work with children ages 4 -12 years old. Children pick out and read a book with their volunteer partner. Through these positive, one-on-one experiences with you, their minds open in new and marvelous ways. UMOM partners with Hands On Greater Phoenix to provide this weekly adventure. When? Administration

Our executive office needs help, too. If you're interested in general office work, we need assistance with mail sorting, filing, assembling packets of information along with a variety of other work. Child Development Center

Every child is an individual. Yet, they all share one thing in common - the earlier they learn how to learn, the better they’ll do throughout the rest of their lives. UMOM’s Child Development Center serves children from six weeks to five years old. Teachers assess each child’s strengths, then create a learning plan that helps them reach developmental goals while encouraging creativity and curiosity. Cub’s Den and Kid’s Den

In these after-school programs, you’ll engage with children in ways that enhance learning and can improve performance in school and in life. You’ll help these young people with their art projects, reading, games and homework. Cub’s Den is for children ages 5 and 6. Kid’s Den is for students ages 7 through 11. When? Clothes Closet

The Clothes Closet is a place where donated clothing is sized, sorted and folded for later use by UMOM residents. This is a great activity for those who'd like to volunteer as a group. Where? In-Kind Donation Assistance

In-kind donations are gently used household items, clothing and other goods that get a second life in the home of a family who can truly use them. Volunteers help moving larger pieces like furniture, and help to repair, organize and inventory donated items. When? Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Who? You (or each individual in a group) must be over the age of 18, comfortable with physical labor and able to life at least 50 pounds.
