Founded in 1964, UMOM New Day Centers is much more than a homeless shelter. UMOM works to restore hope, rebuild lives, and end homelessness.

Mersadees, Greg, and SoleThe journey toward ending homelessness begins at one of our emergency shelters for families, single women, and youth in the Greater Phoenix area. On any given night, there are nearly 800 individuals staying at one of our five campus locations.

HOUSING + EMPLOYMENT = END TO HOMELESSNESS

While at the shelter, each family and individual works one-on-one with a case manager to create a housing and employment plan. At UMOM, we prioritize comprehensive care for everyone at UMOM and provide supportive services through our Wellness Center, Children Services, New Day Employment Center and more. Working with their case manager, individuals create both an employment and housing plan.

Employment SpecialistThe on-site New Day Employment Center has Specialists ready to help individuals create a resume, access job opportunities, and learn new skills. Between the computer lab and workshop space, the Employment Specialists assist individuals in every aspect of gaining employment to ensure they are set up for success. Each month, the Employment Center hosts job readiness courses and a job fair with featured employer partners from the community.

Housing Specialists work with the individuals at UMOM to identify and address barriers that may be preventing them from securing long-term housing. These barriers can range from affordability and location to previous evictions or a criminal background. UMOM connects individuals to a variety of housing programs in the community: Permanent Supportive Housing, Affordable Housing and Rapid Rehousing.

South 7th Village

From 2018 to 2019, more than 18,000 people were helped on their journey from homelessness to hope. Thank you for supporting those who are experiencing homelessness and partnering with us on our mission to end homelessness. There are more than 150 families experiencing homelessness in our community on any given night. They are waiting to escape the unsafe environment of living on the streets, sleeping in cars, or residing in unstable living situations. Due to a lack of resources, many may wait up to eight weeks before a shelter unit is available.
